Governor Diversity

As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

  • target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
  • develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
  • prioritise training and awareness-raising in identified areas
  • address potential ‘blind spots’ through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks

However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.

At Rednal Hill Junior School, we are committed to fostering a governing body that reflects the rich diversity of our school community and the wider society. We believe that a diverse and inclusive governing board enriches our decision-making, brings a variety of perspectives, and strengthens our ability to support all pupils effectively.

Our school community includes pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), pupils eligible for Pupil Premium, and pupils who have English as an Additional Language (EAL). We are dedicated to ensuring our governors understand and represent the experiences and needs of all our pupils and families.

We actively encourage applications for governor roles from individuals of all backgrounds, including but not limited to different ethnicities, genders, ages, disabilities, faiths, sexual orientations, and socio-economic statuses. We recognise that diversity in governance promotes kindness, respect, responsibility, honesty, and determination—core values that underpin everything we do.

Our commitment to diversity is not only about representation but also about creating an inclusive environment where all governors feel valued and empowered to contribute fully to the leadership and strategic direction of the school.
